Low-Cost PACS System

Royal Philips Electronics uses the ECR for the European launch of a "plug and play", low-cost Picture Archiving and Communications System (PACS) to provide small to medium sized clinics and hospitals with a cost sensitive alternative to current PACS systems.

EasyAccess Focus is a line of standardized, pre-configured packaged PACS solutions, based on Philips unique modular PACS system, for institutions performing up to 100,000 examinations per year. This combines both a database and image management system and is designed to be easily expandable with extra capacity for storage, archiving and workstations. The additional capacity can be added when necessary and can be expanded to support inter-hospital solutions.

"PACS systems are now a common, established component of best-practice radiology. However, small and medium sized institutions still face a difficult situation when looking to buy a PACS system," says Peter Duke, director, market development, Medical IT, for Philips Medical Systems Europe Middle East and Africa (EMEA). "EasyAccess Focus offers those institutions a scalable alternative that fits their demands and their needs while also fitting within their budgets." EasyAccess Focus offers a wide range of functionality including a true roaming desktop – leveraging the power of the web by making your home or work desktop setup accessible on internet PCs via the web – fingerprint login, brokerless RIS (Radiology Information System) integration and clinical demonstration functionality. The system also benefits from fast implementation times taking advantage of standard workflows and no limitation on future upgrades and extensions.

Topping the list of new products being showcased this year at ECR are the world's first and only open high-field MR scanner with active shielding – the Philips Panorama 1.0T; the world's only open PET/CT scanner that delivers exceptional image quality with entirely new levels of throughput using line of response (LOR) – the Philips Gemini GXL; the Philips Brilliance 64-channel CT scanner; and the new enterprise-ready Philips Xtenity Radiology Information System (RIS). "The technologies Philips is presenting to the digital imaging community today can help make diagnosis and treatment easier, more efficient and above all, simpler – both for clinicians and their patients," says Jouko Karvinen, president and CEO, for Philips Medical Systems. "Our mission in healthcare is to improve people's lives with advanced technologies that are easy to experience and designed around our customers and patient needs. These new products reflect our commitment to fulfill that mission and to continually provide patient-centric solutions."
