Bedside TV, Radio, and Telephone in UK

Network solutions vendor Allied Telesyn announced that 66,000 UK patients can now enjoy, through the innovative Patientline console, the benefits of bedside TV, radio, and telephone. Fast Ethernet and Layer 3 Rapier switches were implemented by broadband solutions provider Tripleplay Services.

Patientline works in partnership with NHS Trusts to deliver a range of focused solutions designed to reduce hospital staff workload and thereby improving patient care. Tripleplay Services provides system integrators, technical project management, technical design experience, and specialist software products aimed at allowing industry to realise its broadband potential.

The Patientline console has been very popular since being developed in response to the Government's NHS Plan published in July 2000 calling for all major hospitals to have televisions and telephones at patients' bedside by the end of 2004. "There are indications that such services improve patient recovery times, thus minimising the length of stay in hospital and ensuring more beds are available more quickly," explained Steve Rickless, Managing Director of Tripleplay Services. "It is thoroughly rewarding to be involved in a solution … that makes patients' stay in hospital all the more comfortable," added James White, Marketing Director at Allied Telesyn.
