Light Source Opens Up New Applications for Spectroscopy

With FiberLight, Heraeus Noblelight has developed a robust light source that opens up new applications for spectroscopy. It offers the complete UV spectrum of a deuterium lamp with an additional light source for the visible spectral range, but has a size of only 28 mm and a power consumption of 6 W. In mobile applications, FiberLight is e.g. used for probes for the long-time monitoring of nitrates, bromides and bisulphides in sea water. Here, it works as a light source for an in-situ spectrophotometer which operates in depths of more than 2,000 m. In biotechnology, FiberLight is used to check the purity of the DNA sample prior to sequencing. In this case, the small size of the light source is important due to space restrictions in the test equipment.
