LMT F14 – A laser microtome for precise, non-contact cutting

The LMT F14 is a laser microtome, designed to slice samples with high precision. Using femtosecond laser technology, it enables non-contact cutting inside biological tissues and other materials without causing thermal damage.

In contrast to conventional, mechanically working microtomes, the LMT F14 does not require time-consuming tissue preparation such as freezing, dehydration, embedding in resin or paraffin or decalcification, as it is usual with hard tissue. It has the ability to slice almost every tissue in its native state. The processing of a sample is possible within a short time. Further advantages are a significant reduction of artefacts and contamination-free specimens as a positive consequence of the non-contact cutting method.

The laser microtome is a good alternative to conventional microtomes, if living tissue or tissue which is senitive to chemical fixation has to be prepared. Depending on the material being processed, slice thicknesses of 5 to 100 µm are feasible.

The LMT F14 is designed as a stand-alone device and can be handled via touch-screen.
It is suited for applications in life science and in micro technology.
