Serial to Fieldbus Converter
The AnyBus Communicator from HMS Industrial Networks is a flexible protocol converter which connects industrial devices via an RS-232/422/485 interface to all major industrial networks. The Communicator enables instant connectivity to industrial networks such as Profibus, DeviceNet or Ethernet and is targeting all those devices that provide only a serial interface and no direct network connection. The industrial automation market contains a wide range of these devices which typically offer Modbus based serial interfaces. Using the AnyBus Communicator, even these components can be easily integrated into industrial networks. There is no more need for hardware or software modification nor extensive engineering work.
The AnyBus Communicator is a small stand alone device for DIN rail mounting. It is powered by an industrial 24 Volt power supply and consumes typically only 100mA. On the Fieldbus side, the Communicator acts as a slave. On the serial side, it acts as a Master and supports all baudrates from 1200 Baud up to 38,4 kbit/s. In RS-485 mode, the Communicator supports multi drop configurations to connect up to 31 serial devices to the selected Fieldbus. In RS-232/RS-422 mode, every device requires one separate communicator. Basically, Modbus based serial protocols are supported. In all other cases, a Windows based configuration tool can be used to teach the Communicator about the structure and sequence of user specific protocols. After the teach-in process is completed, the Communicator will send and receive the data frames according to the user specific definitions. In addition, the configuration tool can be used during operation to monitor and analyze the data transmission.
For each of the different Fieldbus systems, there is one separate Communicator. All of them provide the same functionality and thus full interchangeability is achieved. Initially, HMS provides Communicators for Profibus, DeviceNet, CanOpen, CC-Link, Controlnet, Profinet, Ethernet/IP, Modbus-TCP, Modbus-RTU and Modbus-Plus.
