"PoroTest 7 Series" launched by ElektroPhysik

For many years, ElektroPhysik, associated world wide with innovative coating thickness gauges, has also been developing a very successful range of reliable and non-destructive porosity detectors for insulating coating materials applied on metal substrates.

The technically updated "PoroTest 7 Series" has been improved in many significant areas, surpassing its predecessor model in terms of ergonomic gauge design, power consumption and ease of use. Also, a completely new feature added to the PoroTest 7 is the electronic high voltage control. This assures output voltage never exceeds settings.

The new "PoroTest 7" series by ElektroPhysik utilizes extremely reliable technology, featuring electronically controlled voltage output for non-destructive testing of insulating coating materials applied to conductive substrates.
Pores, cracks and pinholes in insulating materials are detected by high-voltage which is applied to the coating which locates flaws by a spark discharge to the metallic base material. Another PoroTest 7 feature is that voltage settings is calculated based on the thickness of the coating , this means damage to the coating can virtually be excluded.

ElektroPhysik points out the optimum performance of the tests carried out by the PoroTest 7 are in accordance with the conditions as set forth in the relevant industrial standard DIN 55 670.

PoroTest 7 Features:

  • New ergonomic gauge design – ideal for on-site use
  • improved test electrodes, extremely light-weight and easy-to-handle
  • electronic test voltage control with automatic adjustment specific to material thickness (the use of a separate gauge for measuring the actual test voltage is not necessary)
  • improved stabilisation of test voltage
  • equipment-on and pore indicator at the test electrode
  • optimum safety for the operator through the residual voltage indicator at the test electrode
  • user-friendly key-pad layout with menu driven operation and user-selectable menu language
  • improved operating cycle: up to 20 h at maximum voltage (with 7kV electrode)

The PoroTest 7 features electronically controlled voltage output for porosity detection of coatings on oil, gas and water pipelines, tube and pipe linings, as well as coatings over vessels and on storage tanks, protective coatings on hulls, oil tanks, vessels and pipelines. Even complex geometries such as accoutrements or valves can be tested reliably using the wide range of ElektroPhysik's specially developed electrodes ranging from sweeper, brush, spring, ring or flat electrodes.

PoroTest 7 electrodes feature an integrated high-voltage generator. Electrode selection is based specific to the coating thickness range of the material to be tested. ElektroPhysik offers 2 electrode types: P 7 ranging from 0,5...7kV for thin coatings from 0,03 mm...1,7 mm as well as the P 35 electrode with 6...35kV for thicker coatings from 1,4 mm...11,3 mm. Both electrodes work on DC high-voltage. The entire unit is completely insulated, splash-water protected and conforms to the VDE 0411 standard, part 1 for electrical safety
