Sony introduces white ceiling-mount remote shooting video camera, provides discrete feature-rich operation

Sony Europe's Image Sensing Solutions division has introduced a white version of its industry-leading pan/tilt/zoom (P/T/Z) analogue EVI cameras. The EVI-D70PW has been designed to blend in to most corporate surroundings, and combines the best image sensor available today, a high quality 1/4 type EXview HAD CCD colour camera, with the flexibility of advanced remote P/T/Z operation. The EVI-D70PW camera is a partner model to the black EVI-D70P.

Both EVI-D70 models are enhanced successors of the industry pioneering EVI-D31, and are aimed at integrators and value added resellers working on remote shooting and remote monitoring applications such as video conferencing and surveillance.

The white housing offers discrete, unobtrusive operation, and is designed for such applications such as distance learning, boardrooms/courtrooms, banks, theatres and museums where the viewer can control the camera remotely to capture the desired viewing angle. The unit offers industry leading low light operation, and thus the sensitivity (minimum illumination of less than 1 lux) provided by the EVI-D70PW makes it ideal for near dark applications at night such as security and patient monitoring in hospitals.

The EVI-D70PW ceiling mount unit offers 340-degree pan and 120-degree tilt, delivering exceptional viewing angles. E-flip functionality electronically inverts images to maintain continuous tracking of objects that pass underneath the camera. An 18x optical zoom lens and 12x digital zoom have been added to give the highest total zoom (216x) available in a remote camera today. The large inherent optical zoom enables customers to cover larger rooms whilst still maintaining image quality.

The EVI-D70PW has a maximum pan speed of more than 100 degrees per second operates through +/- 170 degrees; a maximum pan speed of more than 90 degrees/second operates through -30 to +90 degrees. A six-position preset allows rapid recapture of crucial viewing angles.

The Visca protocol now has two interfaces, RS-232C and RS-422, which enable connection to remote control systems. The addition of RS-422 allows the connection of up to seven cameras with a distance of up to 1.2km between two cameras.

The camera also features auto focus, auto ICR function, VBS (pin jack) and Y/C (4pin MiniDIN) video out connections, AE spot setting and EVI-D30/D31 camera emulation. It can be installed as either a desktop unit or full ceiling mount unit and is supplied with operating instructions, AC adaptor, IR remote controller and mounting materials. A wide conversion lens can be mounted easily.
