By Competition to Reality

Exactly one year after Terminal 2 at Munich International Airport has been opened, a German-English building monograph, produced by Koch+Partner, Architects and Urban Planners, Munich will be published in June 2004 by Birkhäuser Verlag, Basel. Munich Airport has received worldwide praise on account of its potential for long-term development, its friendly architecture and the superb quality of its visual appearance.

The central hall of the Terminal 2 building is a new highpoint in airport construction. Air travellers experience a spacious, open, light-flooded and clearly organised space with all the facilities necessary for handling passengers. The variety of shops, restaurants and bars makes the terminal a special experience.

Functionality and aesthetics are combined in a convincing synthesis by the clearly structured and transparent arrangement of space. On the occasion of this event the architects Koch+Partner will document in an exhibition at the Munich Architecture Gallery the planning process and the development of an airport by sketches, renderings, models, images and planning versions. The visitor takes a view into the studio of the architects and will be astonished about the plenty of material. In the next issue of "AIRPORT Safety Security Service" magazine Koch+Partner will give an account of the process of developing an airport.
