New camera sensor for detecting reflections

The new AGD sensor (Area Gloss Detector) specialises in detecting reflections. In addition to its robust detection and evaluation processes, the AGD sensor is characterised by its user-friendliness.

Are metals polished or not? Is a layer of glue present? Is the recessed grip of a cosmetics bottle-top in the right position? The AGD sensor has the answers to these questions. The device was specially developed for applications in which the detection of reflections is decisive for determining whether an object is in order or not. The image recorded by the sensor is evaluated using a minimum pixel sum process. This method is so stable that changes in peripheral conditions (e.g. light relationships, object size or position tolerances) have little effect on the functioning of the sensor. A switching signal is transmitted to the machine control system if a defined application-specific limit value is exceeded or undercut. The AGD’s operation concept, which in the simplest mode is just taught-in via a teach-in input, takes the express wishes of end-users into account. An easily comprehensible uniform menu for settings during operation allows machine operators to independently optimise settings in situ.
