Groundbreaking Microphone Technology

Brüel & Kjær is proud to launch the groundbreaking Surface Microphone Type 4948, which has been developed in close cooperation with Airbus. The new microphone Type 4948 is not only flat and small (2.5mm in height) but also features built in DeltaTron® preamplifier, TEDS and still has the same frequency response as traditional measurement microphones.
The Surface Microphone (patent pending) is developed to measure sound pressure (noise) in limited spaces and where flush mounting of conventional microphone/preamplifier combinations would be impossible or cause undesired side effects.

Applications

  • Measurement of sound pressure directly on the surface of an airplane, car, lorry, wing of a wind turbine, etc.
  • Acoustical fatigue testing
  • Noise reduction measurements on car body
  • Transfer path analysis
  • Flight tests have been performed proving that the all titanium surface microphone is robust and corrosion-resistant, despite its small size. It can withstand de-icing detergent and harsh environments, as for example, normal aeroplane cruising altitudes of 30,000 feet, turbulence, and hailstorms.

Main Specifications

  • Dynamic range 55 dB to 165 dB peak
  • Frequency range 5 Hz to 20 kHz
  • Temperature range – 55 to 100°C
