dks: the dynamic order-picking system by psb

The task is not new, but the solution is: an automated small-parts warehouse with picking zones.
In the course of a large project design, the engineers of the company psb Materialfluss + Logistik intensively dealt with this problem. The demanded picking rate was too high to handle, using a classical method (retrieval of bins, picking, storage). An automated retrieval into live storage channels for picking was not the ideal approach.
psb's solution consists of a runloader miniload system which is able to supply boxes (or bins) into live storage channels and to exchange them back again automatically. Thus, the same live storage channel can be filled with another article box. With this dynamic exchange, more articles can be picked than the number of available live storage channels.
Furthermore, the stacker crane is equipped with a V-multiload handling device. This means that with double-deep storage, two boxes can be transported above each other on the crane. This solutions's main benefit is an optimized (narrower) aisle width. In combination with the well proven selektron psb warehouse management system, psb offers another variant for solving logistic tasks in automated bin storage and order picking.
