Modern Visualisation

Throughout the last few years there has taken place a change in the technique of large screen displays for control rooms and control centres. In the meantime - due to the always growing flexibility standards - projection walls consisting of so called cubes have superseded the classic mosaic walls as presentation medium. There are different kind of technologies, resolutions and sizes for these rearprojection-cubes. The display technology which is being used in most control centres is the DLP technology by Texas Instruments. The resolutions per projection-module range from SVGA via XGA up to SXGA and the resolution is multiplied with the number of cubes. The sizes start with 50" and extend up until 84" screen diagonal, but there are not all sizes with every resolution available. The most important aspects when chosing on of these cubes are the following: form factor, costs, resolutions, brightness, window characteristics, inputs of the projector, maintenance and servicing costs and the reliability. The large screen systems based on cubes are employed in nearly all sectors. This is due to the possibility to connect and visualize different sources and it is very easy to extend and upgrade the complete system. Very reliable systems which have been tried and tested in continuous operation (24h/7 days) are requested for the control room sector, the DLP technology has proven this ability. In the following you find
the explanations of the different areas of application of the large screen displays.

Traffic

Due to the increasing volume of traffic and the therewith connected traffic jams, the closer and closer traffic network and environemental aspects, a precise supervision and navigation of the traffic system is inevitable. Therefor you need reliable systems, which can take on this task in continuous operation. Data and information, which come from traffic detectors, video supervision-systems and other sources, have to be administrated, distributed and visualized. Through this, a timely navigation and administration of the data is guaranteed. In a traffic-management centre these data enters centrally and the productivity and effectiveness of the traffic connections must be protected. Effective supervision and security of streets, motorways, rails (train, tram, underground), waterways (bridges, canals, ships) and aeroplane networks depends in essence on the availability of all information in the control centre. Therefore the projection wall becomes a central unit of the centre and all operations. All the applications, software and video sources are displayed in real time in a wall that they can be dealt with and forwarded quickly by the operators. Large screens are used in the traffic sector for the following applications: graphics (maps, street and railway networks, timetables), GPS applications, camera signals (traffic announcements, set of signals at strategic points within cities, rail networks and airports), monitoring and alarm systems, remote control and other transport systems and software.

Energy - Water - Sewage - Production

In terms of energy, water/sewage and production the flow of information has been increasing strongly druing the last years. This is due to the increasing energy and water requirements, the rising amount of sewage and the bigger production capacities. With the mentioned increasing need, a change in the information technology and processing has taken place. In the meantime within these sectors mainly Scada-systems in connection with multi-projection walls as displaying medium are used in control centres and headquarters. The operators supervise in realtime diagrams, pumps, valves, basins, meters, status of the reading, etc. Further on, it is possible to visualize, supervise and steer surveillance cameras simultaneousely. So the status of each system can be checked at any time and possible problems can be recognized and solved quickly. Here, as well the security factor is to the fore and with the use of a reliable projection wall the cause of the fault can be localised and fixed quickly. Thanks to this, productivity and effectiveness increase a lot. The quality of the supervision and control of nuclear power stations, waterworks, gas or oil supply stations, production centres but as well of waste dumps such as sewage plants depends on the picture quality and the practicality of the central unit of the control centre - the projection wall. The following applications are mainly used and as well visualized, worked on and managed on the projection wall: Scada applications (pipelines, pipes, production networks, pumps, etc), surveillance cameras and other supply/distribution applications.

Telecommunication

Also in this sector, in whose network centres complete and partly worldwide nets are supervised, mainly projection walls are used. Here, they supervise and control graphics (maps, network diagramms, customer specified applications, etc.), complex language and data currents, net ressources, fault management (net control, maintenance, freeing from interference, availability), security management (protection of the nets, redundancy, tests), accounting management (exact wage settlements and its supervision) and the quality management.

Security

Increasing crime rates and the 11th September 2001 have led to higher standard requests in this sector. In the security centres as well, data has to be available in realtime and continuous operation. Here, the most important point, is the interaction of supervision, control, regulation, planning and coordination of action works. Therefeor the teams have to work networked and this work can both be controlled and supervised. On the projection walls -which can be realized in any size - many different sources can be displayed. For example quite a number of surveillance cameras can be combined with either graphics or other sources on the projection wall. Within one projection module, up to 9 video sources (e.g. surveillance cameras) can be displayed - this multiplies in depending on the size of the wall. On one wall, a nearly unlimited number of PC windows can be shown. Besides, in comparison to other monitors there are no disrupting borders. These systems are used for the surveillance of airports, train stations, harbours, underground stations, multi-storey car parks, hospitals, industry, warehouses, banks, places of detention and so on. Another reason why the "cube-solution" is being favoured in the security sector is the enormous saving potential (space, weight, energy and costs) in contrast to the traditional monitor solutions. The advantages of the projection walls are the high video density and the integrated display of video and data applications.

Broadcast

Also in the broadcast sector, cube solutions are being more and more popular and start to supersede the old monitor solutions. The main reasons for using cube based projection walls are the following: small overhead and maintenance expenses, high flexibility thanks to expandability and different inputs, best quality of pictures, possibility to scale and zoom, integration and requests of delivery of scenarios and presets.
For each of these areas of application, eyevis offers the right solution with the best picture quality - another advantage: customer specified solutions can be produced at any time, eyevis develops and sells large screen solutions for a broad area of applications. The following products aredeveloped and produced by eyevis itself:
  • Hyper Cube - Rearprojection-Cubes based on the DLP
  • Technology by Texas Instruments
  • Netpix - networked based controller for multi-projection walls
  • eyecon - Unique intelligent network management system for large displays client-server architecture software, SQL based for Windows and Unix/Linux
  • ManagementInformationCenter MIC - complete solution
  • for conference and board rooms
  • eyepil - moblie rearprojection unit to display video- and data-source, freely addable
With the flexible product spectrum, with its different options and extension possibilities, eyevis offers perfect visual solutions. Thanks to the development of intelligent software solutions, undreamt of possibilities for processing, controlling, distributing and visualising data have arisen. With the eyecon software, eyevis has created a system which is unique on the market. The solution is cross- platform and makes it possible to display, control and to work with any kind of sources - besides, it doesn't matter, whether it is a extern or network source. Many extra functions as for example alarm management, event scheduler, presets are at your disposal. The software was developed by eyevis itself and is coordinated to the eyevis cubes and controller. For this the competitors use outside solutions, which have to be put together and can't be operated as intuitive as the eyevis solution. Furthermore, it is very difficult to connect the competitive solutions to the customers systems.
As a result you can say that eyevis offers a complete system, all developed from one hand, which meets highest quality and security requirements. Plus a nearly endless number of complex signals and sources can be displayed and administered 24 hours per day and 7 days a week.
