Wanzl trolleys for Singapore, Warsaw and Milan-Malpensa airports

Across Europe, in particular in eastern Europe, and in Asia, the main airports are reporting strong growth figures.

Singapore Airport
The biggest order came from Singapore Airport – for their new Terminal 3, still under construction, Wanzl is producing 2,500 ‘Travel 300 Combi’ luggage trolleys with a longer platform for larger items of luggage. Another 3,600 trolleys, this time, ‘Easy 300’ Airport Shoppers are being manufactured for use in Duty Free. This model has an extra-large basket to support the non-aviation business of the 70 new retailers in Terminal 3. This large order is being delivered in three batches before the terminal opens in January next year. When Terminal 3 is completed Singapore Airport will be able to handle over 65 million air passengers per year.

Warsaw Airport

Another major order, which has now been successfully completed by Wanzl, was for Warsaw Airport. Since the middle of May, 2,000 ‘Travel 300’ luggage trolleys have been in service at the airport. They are equipped with a coin-deposit system, operated on a non-returnable basis. The trolleys are held in readiness for passengers at 32 trolley monitoring stations across the extensive airport site. Each station is fitted with sensors which register when trolleys are removed or returned, and report the status back to the central data point via Ethernet (LAN). This means that the airport operator always knows how many trolleys are available and where, and can relocate them for arriving or departing passengers. Wanzl also delivered almost 400 ‘Easy 1’ Airport Shoppers for the duty-free zone at Warsaw Airport.

Milan-Malpensa Airport

Milan-Malpensa, the most important interchange for the Italian airline Alitalia, has replaced its entire luggage trolley fleet with a total of 2,600 ‘Voyager 3000’ trolleys. These trolleys are fitted with autowalk castors for safe, easy movement of luggage between different airport levels. 76 trolley starter bays ensure proper return and availability of the trolleys with a coin-deposit system. Six ‘Airport Scooters’ by Wanzl support trolley management at the airport – the ‘Airport Scooter’ can collect up to 40 trolleys at once, and distribute these to the bays for use by passengers. At the same time another 800 ‘Travel 300’ luggage transport trolleys in high-quality stainless steel were supplied to Verona Airport. After Genoa, Rome, Bari, Catania and Treviso – all existing airport customers of Wanzl – the airports of Milan-Malpensa and Verona are new customers who demand high quality and optimum service in luggage transport.
