ACHEMA Highlight: Food-grade formulation / AFM 34 – the FDA-compliant fiber-based flat gasket material

With the FDA compliance for a gasket material using aramid fibers, Victor Reinz, the leading gasket manufacturer has set new standards. Wherever “milk and honey” flow, it is now possible to install significantly more cost-effective gaskets made of AFM 34 to seal equipment and flanges. Consequently, this is the first time that a more economic and simultaneously high-performance alternative is available for the flat gasket materials (e.g. PTFE) previously used in the foodstuffs industry.

AFM 34 meets the high demands of the USA's Food and Drug Administration (FDA) without any restrictions. The FDA is a federal agency responsible for ensuring, amongst others, that foodstuffs are safe. Now, an accredited institute has confirmed: The composite gasket material AFM 34 manufactured by Victor Reinz complies with the stringent FDA regulations, and can therefore be used without restrictions in foodstuffs processing equipment. This includes pipe flanges as well as containers for the production, transport, and storage of foodstuffs. The approval is valid for all types of foodstuffs in all temperature ranges.

Apart from its FDA compliance, AFM 34 has been approved by all other important agencies, such as DIN-DVGW, SVGW, ÖVGW, KTW, WRAS, VP 401 (HTB), Fire Safe, BAM, and TA Luft.
