LEDs The Future of Fluorescence Microscopy

Olympus has enhanced its flexible range of light emitting diode (LED) fluorescence light sources for microscopy. With advancements to the precisExcite® excitation light source for reflected fluorescence and the FluoLED entry-level fluorescence systems, the LED light source range offers a new level of functionality. Precise illumination and simplified control enables Olympus to offer the appropriate illumination source for all life science fluorescence applications; from entry-level single-colour to advanced high-speed multi-colour.

  • Technically Advanced: Contrary to popular belief, LEDs produce heat as a by-product. The peerless precisExcite system is the only one on the market that is fitted with a Peltier-based cooling system, which ensures the highest levels of intensity and stability from the unique LED Array Modules (LAMs). The precisExcite is now also capable of managing four different wavelengths at the same time, making this technology even more accessible for multicolour fluorescence protocols.
  • Extended Flexibility: The introduction of four new LAMs to the portfolio of LED array modules has further extended the flexibility of the precisExcite, providing intensities not possible on other LED-based systems. These include the unique 490 nm, ideal for FITC, as well as 535, 565 and 585 nm LAMs. Furthermore, additional LAMs are under development.
  • Simple to Use: The entry-level FluoLED fluorescence illumination system is easy to install and operate, as there is no requirement for lamp alignment or excitation filters, making the FluoLED systems highly intuitive and effortless to use.
  • Fulfilling User Requirements: Available in three different versions, the FluoLED series is able to match any user requirements, offering seven different wavelengths. From the highly cost effective FluoLED EasyFluo with its fixed intensity, though the routine FluoLED single with intensity control, to the versatile FluoLED MultiFluo with full control over three different wavelengths.
