The Kontron NotePAC Pro B300: First notebook with 1200 nits sunlight readable technology

With the new IP54 protected and MIL-STD-810F compliant Kontron NotePAC Pro B300, Kontron premiers a full-featured rugged notebook with the industry’s first 1200 nit screen that is easy to read in any lighting condition, day or night. 20 percent above industry standard, the optional sunlight readable display of the Kontron NotePAC Pro B300 outshines any reflections caused by sunlight or other bright light sources for true legibility in the field.

With the energy-efficient, yet powerful 1.6 GHz Intel® Core™2 Duo processor, draft n WLAN, EVDO/HSDPA wireless connectivity and up to 12 + 12 hours battery operation, the Kontron NotePAC Pro B300 can be configured to meet all the demands of outdoor professionals who rely on high computing performance combined with extensive communication abilities and extreme autonomy in the field. This makes the compact Kontron NotePAC Pro B300 the ideal hardcore companion for professionals working in the field services, utilities, processing industries, professional outdoor sports, public safety and public services as well as defense. Mobile application areas include (off-) road business, mobile data acquisition and data visualization.

The Kontron NotePAC Pro B300 solves the problem of outdoor screen viewability thanks to its 13.3 inch XGA (1024 x 768) display with the option of the industry’s first high-brightness, sunlight readable panel of 1200 nits (standard display has 500 nits). Even when it is equipped with a resistive touch screen, the Kontron NotePAC Pro B300 exceeds the industry standard of 1000 nits that is deemed to be the brightest value currently available on the market. The brightness of competing panels can be reduced by 20-30 percent when touch screen functionality is added. This record has been achieved via a new energy saving LED-backlight that offers greater legibility without sacrificing battery life. Furthermore, the Kontron NotePAC Pro B300 features an auto brightness adjustment; a light sensor detects ambient lighting conditions and adjusts the panel’s brightness automatically which increases viewing comfort and conserves battery power. Another first for the Kontron NotePAC Pro B300 is the optional “Night Vision” mode, which meets the MIL-STD-3009 specification. It is based on a patented micro-current control technology (an embedded mask) that eliminates the need for an optical screen filter when wearing night vision goggles and uses a sophisticated software algorithm to switch easily between normal and Night Vision Mode.

When it comes to wireless communication, the Kontron NotePAC Pro B300 offers the latest standards for WAN, WLAN and WPAN networks. Optionally equipped with High Speed Downlink Packet Access (HSDPA) or UMTS, EDGE GPRS, as well as GSM, it directly connects to next-generation wireless data networks almost anywhere in the world. The integrated 802.11a/g/n WLAN adapter boosts data transfer rates up to 600 Mbps and the Bluetooth V 2.02 class 2 adapter provides data rates of up to 2.1 Mbps. As for wired communications, the Kontron NotePAC Pro B300 features 1 x LAN 10/100/1000, 3x USB 2.0, 1 x Firewire IEEE1394a, 2 x COM RS232 and an internal 56k modem. Besides the media bay, which holds a dual CD/DVD writer and can also be fitted with a secondary HDD or an additional battery to extend the Kontron NotePAC Pro’s mobile operating life between charges to an unequalled 24 hours, it offers a 4-in-1 card reader and 2 x PCMCIA slots for 2 x type II or 1 x type III cards. As an option, an Express Card Slot replaces one PCMCIA slot. An optional GPS module with internal antenna helps with navigation.

Designed for uncompromising outdoor use, even under the toughest conditions, the Kontron NotePAC Pro B300 features a fanless magnesium alloy case, sealed ports and connectors, as well as a waterproof keyboard with an optional LED-backlight. It provides IP54 protection and MIL-STD-810F compliance and optionally even offers salt fog resistance. The SATA hard drive modules are shock mounted to absorb shock forces without damaging the disk surface. A built-in G-sensor provides additional shock and vibration protection in extreme situations. If the unit is dropped the HDD heads are parked in a fraction of a second to avoid HDD head crashes. The Kontron NotePAC Pro B300 complies with TÜV, UL and CUL regulations and provides EMC protection (CE class B, FCC class B) and optionally MIL-STD-461E compliance. To ensure data integrity remains intact in the event of theft, hacking or accidental damage the Kontron NotePAC Pro B300 features a biometric fingerprint reader and password security options for supervisors/users which lock the HDD if an unauthorised user attempts to enter the system. There is also a Trusted Platform Module (TPM 1.2) which guards against unauthorised tampering from physical theft to software attack and the option to include a Smart Card Reader.

The Vista compatible, full-featured, fully rugged Kontron NotePAC Pro B300 is available now with Windows XP. Optional accessories include an external 12-32V DC/DC adapter, a vehicle docking station as well as an AC/DC car adapter charger and an external battery charger.
