3D Position Detection with Laser Measuring Technology

VMT presents complete automation solutions for the most varied of industrial applications – the long awaited “Handling in the container”

The requirements for palleting and depalleting of objects and the handling of parts and various packing drums are generally very stringent and demand clever system solutions.

It is for this reason that VMT Bildverarbeitungssysteme GmbH in Weinheim, in addition to very many proven image-processing solutions, which are in use worldwide, has focused very strongly in recent years on the development of multi-sensor systems.

This opens up the possibility of being able to select between classical image processing and a wide variety of sensor systems, or to use these in an appropriate combination. The VMT IS System offers completely new options in this respect. The capability to use a wide range of different technologies with one system means that optimum solutions can be quickly developed for customer applications.

The sensors used in these applications include many different CCD surface and line scanning cameras, as well as triangulation, laser light split beam sensors, light propagation time sensors and ultrasonic sensors of the latest generation.
A particular feature of the laser sensor systems is their widest possible insensitivity to extraneous light, which is always of enormous importance for applications involving industrial conditions. Through the use of these technologies and the possibility of optimally combining the appropriate sensors, solutions are achieved, which provide maximum availability and the highest efficiency. A current example is the unloading of industrial containers, which are filled with a large number of brake disks, whose position and orientation is very irregular. The handling system here involves the removal strategy and the 3D position of the components to be removed. In the process, extraneous objects have to be safely detected so that crash situations are reliably avoided.
