Dieffenbacher - Highlights at K-2007

At K 2007, to be held from 24 to 31 October 2007 in Düsseldorf, Dieffenbacher GmbH + Co. KG and its subsidiary ASA GmbH – Anlagen- und System-Automation are going to be defining the new state of the art.

At K 2007, Dieffenbacher will be presenting the "DuroVision" development project sponsored by the bmb+f- (German Federal Ministry for Education and Research). The partners in this are the Fraunhofer Institute for Chemical Technology, RESPECTA Maschinenbau GmbH, Projektträger Jülich (PTJ), M-Base Engineering + Software GmbH, BYK Chemie GmbH, Reichhold, POLYTEC Composites Germany GmbH and Johns Manville.

The objective is to manufacture components from fiber-reinforced thermosetting plastics in the direct process. Reproducible manufacturing of compounds and components in one process step represents significant progress in development that makes using this material more attractive and increases the range of applications. DuroVision has now achieved material characteristic values that make it suitable for conventional SMC applications. Above all, it has achieved quality values corresponding to the requirements for Class A surfaces.

Using combined extrusion and pressing systems for the LFT-D-ILC direct process, it is possible to process rovings and plastics directly and to produce lightweight components for the automotive components industry. Crash-resistant lightweight structural components with a cosmetic surface can be manufactured using advanced and ground-breaking "tailored
LFT-D" technology, without incurring the high costs of the semifinished product stage. The rear door of the new smart fortwo is a component with localized reinforcements for the best possible structural properties that is manufactured using this process. The special thing about this cosmetic component is that it does not have to be painted. The Dieffenbacher extruder system permits in-line blending of a paint batch.

As well as these particularly efficient manufacturing processes, Dieffenbacher supplies the presses for processing fiber-reinforced plastics (SMC, GMT, LFT) that are used for manufacturing complex lightweight components.

By using the new short-stroke closing concept in the COMPRESS PLUS press series, it is possible to achieve energy savings of 50% and more compared to conventional press systems.
Furthermore, the ability to adapt the press control system sensitively to the characteristics of the material makes it possible to manufacture parts using an optimized process and therefore also economically.

The new COMPRESS ECO press series is the contemporary response to current demands in plastic forming for fiber-reinforced thermosetting plastic materials (SMC, BMC, etc.) with a press force from 4,000 kN to 15,000 kN, for manufacturing small to medium-sized parts. The new COMPRESS ECO press series - optionally with active parallel control - is characterized in particular by its attractive price/performance ratio, and rounds off the Dieffenbacher range.

Dieffenbacher will be showing other interesting new products for its process control and production data acquisition systems. Dieffenbacher's portfolio is rounded off by an extended service concept providing 24-hour online support.

The range of products and services also encompasses the automated press environment for raw materials, parts handling and CNC reworking (water jet cutting machines, CNC milling machine), such as deburring, punching, drilling, etc., and automatic assembly machines for pressing in self-piercing nuts, clips and hole reinforcements.

Dieffenbacher, a world-leading machine manufacturer for forming fiber-reinforced plastics, will be presenting its products and services at the K 2007 in Düsseldorf from 24 to 31.10.2007 in Hall 14, Stand 14A04.
