Laser diodes

Mitsubishi Electric offers a wide range in the field of laser diodes. These components can be utilised in practically all possible fields of
application: from consumer electronics to biotechnology, from industrial application to medical technology, from DVD roasters to displays and even laser shows!

Laser diodes from Mitsubishi Electric not only have a high beam quality with high output and long service life, but they also offer a good value for money. This is why Mitsubishi Electric is one of the largest manufacturers of high-performance laser diodes for the 660nm range.

Red laser: 660nm
These laser diodes emit visible light with a wavelength of 660nm, and are often utilised in the fields of show effects, displays or industry, in which case the long-term output (CW, Continuous Wave) of 120mW or more is very attractive to users. According to Mitsubishi Electric these products offer the world's highest output power at 660nm in a TO-CAN. The Mitsubishi Electric lasers from the production series ML1xx21 to ML1xx27 are also distinguished through a particularly fast modulation capability with high optical power density. The main application for these red diode lasers - which are accommodated in a compact 5.6mm TO housing - are DVD roasters.

Red laser: 642nm
With new laser diodes, which will be available as single emitters and as bars, Mitsubishi Electric is for the first time announcing 642nm products that feature a heretofore worldwide unachieved combination of excellent beam data, high outputs and outstanding dependability.

Due to the high spectral sensitivity of the human eye (642nm), the light emitted by the laser diodes appears especially bright to the eye. The single emitter LD for 640nm - which is integrated in a hermetically sealed 5.6mm TO housing - bears the designation ML520G51 01 and features an anticipated service life of more than 20,000 hours, whereas the long-term output amounts to 150mW (CW).

Next year, Mitsubishi Electric will launch a bar variation with a new TOCAN design that features an edge length of 25mm x 25mm. Both versions will also be available in an open variation (without cap) in order to enable the placement of micro-optics directly in front of the chip.

Mass products
The laser diodes from the Mitsubishi production series MLxxxx are conceived as mass products and are therefore available with an unbeatable value for money. For instance, the easily visible laser can be utilised together with frequency converted laser beams for the colours green and blue in RGB laser systems, which are required for shows or displays (from consumer to automotive). Further applications lie in the realm of medical technology, biotechnology and reprography.

Other wavelengths
Mitsubishi Electric also manufactures laser diodes which emit from 808nm or 940nm and are particularly suitable for pumping solid-state lasers. In addition, the product range of Mitsubishi Electric includes analogue and digital laser- and photo-diodes for the bands 1310nm and 1550nm.
