Smart Cameras with Accessible FPGA for Application Specific Image Pre-processing

The new eneo® series of Smart Cameras sets new standards in the Machine Vision industry and offers highest flexibility. Based on the Open Source Linux Operating System, industry standard software packages can be used for this Smart Camera series.

From the very start German software company MVTec offers its Machine Vision library HALCON® to run on the new eneo® Smart Camera series. But because of the Open Source idea individual software can be written for special applications. For this purpose the eneo® cameras come along with a powerful API and an optimised toolchain to support software programmers.

The very special feature of this camera series is the freely accessible Xilinx Spartan-3 FPGA where application specific algorithms for image pre-processing can be implemented to save valuable CPU resources. German company Silicon Software offers a tailored version of its VisualApplets - a graphical tool to program the FPGA without the need to write a single line of source code.

Colour and monochrome cameras are available with standard C lens mount or with integrated optics and LED illumination. The very compact design of only 45x45x84 mm, the low weight of 184 g and the extremely low power consumption of less than 2 watts allow integration in existing applications as well as in new systems. Frame rates of 180 fps in full resolution and up to 1000 fps in ROI mode cope with the increased speed of modern automation and production machines.

Across the integrated Ethernet bus several cameras can be synchronized throughout the entire network and through the Ethernet or CAN interface automation controllers can be instructed directly.
