Mobile surveillance robot for monitoring large areas & for gas detection

MOSRO 1 is equipped with finger print sensors, ultra sound, radar and passive infrared sensors, a CCD camera and an optic-acoustic signalling system as well as infrared sensors as standard.

A radar sensor system provides for the exact localisation of several moving objects. By means of neural networks the electronic watchman moves independently through the objects to be watched for a guaranteed operating time of 16 to 18 hours. Via LAN, ISDN or mobile networks it keeps constant contact with the control room and transmits images in real time at 3 images/second. By means of a Windows surface controlling and robot management have been implemented with a concise graphic user interface.

Using a specially developed surveillance system the person in charge receives information regarding maintenance and malfunctions as well as intruder reports. All processes are centrally visualised. This leaves the possibility to interfere and navigate the robot to the problem areas in order to identify the hazard. Restricted application of the robot is only given by extreme temperatures below –5 degrees Celsius and above +50 degrees Celsius and when using the robot on uneven ground. For the basic briefing regarding robot control a period of only 4 hours is necessary.

MOSRO 1 can be equipped with numerous additional features. Via the SMS information and remote maintenance system the robot can be watched and controlled via GSM radio, which is a safe, time and cost effective method. As soon as MOSRO 1 detects a disturbance it will send an alarm signal as an SMS onto the mobile phone, which gives information about the robot's current position and the activated safety sensor (smoke, gas, radar and infrared sensor). Via a replying SMS different switching operations can be initiated (i.e. lighting) or data (i.e. last access time with the person's name) requested. The SMS texts are up to 160 characters long and can be transmitted to up to 24 robots.

Another practical additional feature is the Mobile Monitoring System. This enables the controlling of the MOSRO 1 via a handheld based on Windows CE. The data is transmitted using radio via wireless LAN or GPRS/GSM technology. The advantage: A stationary emergency store controller becomes superfluous. So the watchman keeps the overview of the building watched by MOSRO 1 even if he has to leave the control centre on short notice. If, for instance, a burglary is taking place in an industrial hall the alerted surveillance robot will transmit its current position in real time image transmission to the watchman. If required, the watchman may steer the robot via the MM system or retrieve all relevant information in order to estimate the situation/request an alarm report. The user is enabled to display an overview of the entire surveillance area on the MM system. If required, the user can also request the display of details of the halls, such as doors, windows or escape routes, historic values, i.e. lighting and access times. The operating is affected intuitively on the familiar windows surface using pen or finger on the touch screen and, if required, via a provided virtual keyboard.

The handheld can also be used for further functions specific to the company. Robots and personnel can be located via the handheld. Colleagues can use the electronic assistant as a guide. The assistant can also be used for remote maintenance and diagnosis tasks as well as communication between colleagues or demanding documentation. Further usable applications are scheduling and task planning, the provision of work schedules and the compilation of accounts of the hours worked.

The ideal application areas for MOSRO 1 are surveillance objects with a floor space starting from 900 square meters. MOSRO 1 improves the quality of surveillance of industrial plants with high exposure. If used for specialised plants it can be equipped with additional control features, for instance to identify chemical residue.
