One-day seminar for scientists who are interested in separation, analysis and characterisation of particles, nanoparticles and colloidal structures in a size range reaching from several nm up to the µm range.

The goal of the seminar is to provide understanding of the basic theory and principles of Light Scattering (DLS and MALS) and Field-Flow-Fractionation (AF4).
Light scattering will be introduced as a method which can be used to characterise particles with respect to their molar mass, size and shape.

Moreover, guest lectures will be held to illustrate the wide variety of practical applications of AF4 and MALS in the particle research area. Participants will have the opportunity to discuss their specific applications and questions in detail with our experts.

Eintägiges Seminar über die Auftrennung und Charakterisierung von Partikeln, Nanopartikeln und kolloidalen Strukturen in einem Größenbereich von wenigen nm bis zu mehreren µm. Dargestellt werden die Grundlagen von statischer und dynamischer Lichtstreuung und Feldfluss-Fraktionierung sowie deren Applikationen in der Partikelcharakterisierung, so z.B. zur Bestimmung von Molmasse, Größe, Form u.v.m.

Darüber hinaus gibt es Gastreferate von renommierten Anwendern mit eindrucksvollen Anwendungsbeispielen aus der Praxis. Rund um die Vorträge ist Gelegenheit, mit unseren Experten über individuelle analytische Fragestellungen und Applikationsmöglichkeiten zu sprechen.

This training course provides theory lectures and practical sessions for modern analysis of
macromolecules using gel permeation chromatography (GPC), also known as size exclusion
chromatography (SEC). It covers the theoretical background of the separation technique, gives practical advice for reproducible and accurate analysis, and shows the application advantages as well as the limitations of GPC/SEC and GPC/SEC hyphenation with light scattering, viscometry and other techniques. In the praxis sessions small workgroups (maximum 5 people) verify a GPC/SEC system, check the performance of the separation column, calibrate, and evaluate samples using different techniques. Each group has its own tutor, an experienced polymer chemist, to discuss also special
applications and questions.

A major meeting place in Laboratory Medicine, Medical Biology, Molecular Biology and Diagnostics, the International Biology Days (Journées Internationales de Biologie - JIB) will take place at the CNIT Paris la Défense in France from November 2nd to 5th, 2010 (the 2nd is only dedicated to the congress).
